Throughout the City of Atlanta, young black gay men are emerging as a diverse culture with complex identities, backgrounds, talents and aspirations.  Like other historically oppressed groups, they are often in conflict with the dominant culture that imposes unjust social, cultural, sexual, religious and political barriers.

In November of 2006, the Evolution Project was started to address the needs of young black gay men in Metro Atlanta by building a comprehensive program that would recognize their many facets by providing, creating and supporting social networks.  The objective was to enhance the lives young black men who may or may not identify as “Gay”, but practice same-sex sexual behavior.  The CDC has recognized this group as being at extremely high risk for HIV infection.

The primary goal of the Evolution Project is to address the prevailing rates of HIV infection among young black gay men.   Utilizing a science-based methodology, the project will address HIV prevention, testing, and treatment in a way that is culturally competent, sound and engaging to the program participants.
